Brockton is a Massachusetts city with a population of about 100,000. The city serves as the county seat of Plymouth County and shares its responsibility with the city of Plymouth. The seventh largest city in the state of Massachusetts, Brockton is sometimes referred to as the City of Champions. Brockton derives its nickname from the success of native boxers Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. There are two villages located in Brockton, Montello and Campello, and both have their own post offices and MBTA Commuter Rail systems.

The city of Brockton is named after Isaac Brock and on April 9th, 1881 Brockton officially became a city. While the American Civil war was taking place, Brockton was the largest producer of shoes in America. Until the latter parts of the 20th century, Brockton maintained a healthy shoe and leather products industry.

Brockton is known as a very attractive city and features many highlights. The city was named as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in the United States in ’05, ’08 and ’10. The prestigious award is handed out by America’s Promise Alliance to communities taking action to lower dropout rates and provide supportive services to youth.

There are many educational opportunities for individuals living in Brockton. Brockton High School is not only the largest high school in New England but is also one of the biggest in the nation with more than 4,200 students. It has twice been named one of America’s Best High School’s by U.S. News & World Report. Massasoit Community College has been serving individuals seeking higher education for more than 40 years.

Brockton sees varying temperatures throughout the year. Daytime temperatures average in the high 30s throughout the winter months and in the low 80s during summer months. Residents will find it necessary to have both their furnaces and HVAC units inspected to ensure they are properly running and equipped to keep indoor temperatures comfortable.
